A Message From Councilwoman Deb Denys
Volusia County has been home to me and my family for more than 30 years, and it has been my great honor to have spent the last 7 of those years as your District 3 representative on the Volusia County Council.
Together, much has been accomplished since I was first elected to the Council in 2012. We implemented significant water protection and preservation initiatives, strengthened our emergency response system and stimulated economic development and job growth. We rolled out the welcome mat for the aerospace industry by reducing government red tape. And we funded a new Sheriff’s evidence facility, medical examiner’s office and public works center to better serve our residents along with other critical service and facility needs while eliminating all debt in the General Fund.
Progress doesn’t always come easily. It requires vision. It requires steady, determined and effective leadership. And it often requires making difficult decisions – which is something I’ve never shied away from. In the past 18 months, I along with my Council colleagues have continued to chart a bold and exciting new course that includes a new county manager and a new interim county attorney. And I also helped lead the charge to hire an internal auditor to help identify efficiencies and instill an added layer of transparency and accountability in County Government.
These are exciting times full of great challenges and ever greater opportunities for Volusia County. My husband George and I remain as dedicated to public service as when we arrived here in 1989. We have worked tirelessly to help maintain Volusia County’s natural beauty, character and quality of life. While the community has made great strides, the work isn’t done. But I’m confident that we’re on the right path and together, we will get there. I thank you for the faith that you’ve placed in me and ask for your support and your vote for County Chair so that we can continue the progress towards a bright and prosperous future for our residents, our future, our home – Volusia County!
